Very good low profile arm at times can feel weak mainly due to the plastic build

Better than I expected!

What i was expecting was just a normal low profile mic stand but it also has cable management and I also like that you can swing it away from your desk so it's organized. I'm so happy with my purchase!

One of the best upgrades I've ever done

This is a solid piece of hardware that does exactly what I need. I was getting sick of the hanging jack-knife boom arm that didn't quite reach over my monitor. I found ways to make it work, but it was a total inconvenience every time I needed to record. Then I found this arm and it solved everything. I can now swing it sideways, under my monitors, and I never have to adjust it. It stays in the position I need and when I pull it over, it's perfectly at mouth level. If this thing ever broke, I would buy another one right away. But I don't think that will happen because it's built tough - strong metal and even a robust clamp. This thing is rugged. So happy I bought this.

Great until it wasn’t… sort of

I got this mic arm about a week or two ago, and was pretty sad to see that it kept sagging even when my mic was under the weight limit. I ended up returning it, BUT I give it four stars because the customer service was incredible! It was super easy to get it returned and took not time at all!

Hello Aiden,

Your feedback will always be our motivation to make progress. Hope to bring you a better experience in the near future.

Best regards,

Lower price while better performance, what could possibly go wrong

  • In terms of audio improvement, a microphone arm like this FIFINE BM88 does almost the same as a scissor one. But where the mileage varies is whether it will blend more in your setup and be more convenient for your daily use.
  • The idea is to keep the mic floating lower under your monitors to get a low-profile image. In streaming or live podcasting, having the microphone in front of your face the whole time, you will run into a hard time making better contact with your audience. And that’s where a low-profile arm stand can save the day:
  • It doesn't dominate the frame, the audience can basically just see the top part of the mic while the arm is invisible. And without a mic arm blocking your view at all, you can also see the screen well. In those live cases, the last thing you want is a huge boom arm taking up a large proportion of your frame.
  • Aside from the pro that others can barely see the whole stand, to be able to install it on the back of the desk will also give you a bunch of space to work with, and without being too awkward, giving you unrestricted access to the keyboard and mouse as well as camera and monitor!
  • But if you think that a $100 microphone arm that just sits on your desk to let your mic stay down and let you pull the mic around is way too expensive, would it be more acceptable with a price tag of about $50?

A huge dent in the price but no skimp on the all-metal material and performance, it actually makes a much better bang for your money!

Kicking off with things that are not quite surprising - the C-clamp base opens up 2.4 inches in height to fit most desks with a square edge and comes with a ratchet system to give an easier installation. With some padding inside the clamp, you will not be worried about using it on even a square glass table.

If you change your steaming position quite a lot or just don’t have a regular place as your studio, a ratchet system could mean a lot more to you, since you may have to install and uninstall the stand many times. The handle can be extended and turned inward so it will not stick out from your desk. If you are limited on space, it’s much more slick than the installation of a normal clamp.

Once you have the mic stand installed on your table, in most cases you may just let it sit there forever and whenever you need the microphone, you just pull it in front of your face. Then it brings us to the crucial question of whether the arms are long enough to cover the length from one side of the desk to the other side or from the back to the front. But the length that it reaches could never be the problem of the FIFINE BM88. Up to 11.5 inches of each arm, a total of 27.8 inches length in horizontal, which is a big positive if you have a big desk. And you do not have to worry about leaning to the side to record a podcast or shout at your teammate in-game.

One of the best ways to install it is to go underneath the monitor to not block or distract your vision during game or podcasting. But that doesn’t mean it has to go so low that it gets in the way of your keyboard typing position. The desk clearance of the lower arm is 2.8 inches, which allows you to use your mouse or keyboard without hitting the arm.

The central joint of the upper arm can not just rotate left and right, but also vertically, literally a two-way rotation. A scissor arm can also do so, but this LP (low-profile) type can do it in a less obtrusive way for you to stand when video conferencing or music recording. You can really bring it up to use with a shotgun mic for completely out-of-frame recording or streaming.

The most understated party pieces

How can it be called low-profile when the cable is being strapped outside with velcro? Now, it’s the party pieces start to show a little bit. With the built-in cable management system, it provides a very clean way to route and tuck away the cable.

But up until now, the description above seems like a universal fit for some similar mic arms out there on the market as well. What makes it really stand out from the rest is the sliding panels that secure the cable in place to avoid easily popping-off when swinging the arms. The user-friendly features keep adding up!

It’s not close to a bother to slide in the panels after putting the cable into the arms’ channel since you may just put the cable in once and forever. But the result is quite reassuring: it does provide the best security to keep even the thickest XLR cable in place.

Besides, the detachable panel is upside down, which means the top surface of the arms is always flat while the cable runs through underneath to make your setup look more minimal. You might not expect what it does best to clean up your desk space.

It’s the springs inside or outside the scissor boom arm that help position the items, thus you will get a little bit of inevitable droop. While in such type of low-profile mic stand, you need to use the included Allen key to add tension at the elbow joints of the arms. But that also means a more precise adjustment. You can really lock it down so it doesn’t swing when you bump it.

The ball head gives the best angular flexibility when it comes to positioning the mic at the very end. You can twist it to have some funky angles. It's also easier to position the mics that are supposed to be used vertically.

With two separate adapters, no microphone mount that they can’t handle, or even a wide range of lighting or lightweight cameras that have standard 1/4”, 5/8”, or 3/8” thread.

This kind of mic arm isn’t best known for their weight-carrying. But at least you don’t have to worry about it in this FIFINE BM88. It has plenty of strength to hold up a microphone that weighs around 1.5kg.
